The fantasy football offseason is heating up with NFL free agency and possible trades. This column is a one-stop shop for quick analysis of the most impactful player movement. ESPN Fantasy writers Matt Bowen, Tristan H. Cockcroft, Eric Karabell, Liz Loza and Eric Moody offer insights into what each move means for a player’s 2026 fantasy value, and Mike Clay supplies projections for each player (all projections are for 17 games unless noted).
Quarterback
March 16: Jets trade Justin Fields to Chiefs
Fantasy impact: Negative
Cockcroft: Fields has had poor rates for sacks, quarterback contact, completion percentage and off-target throws across his career, offering a style that contrasts with Patrick Mahomes (torn ACL/LCL) as a short-term fill-in. Any starts by Fields risk hampering Kansas City’s passing production and the fantasy value of Rashee Rice, Xavier Worthy and Travis Kelce. His mobility gives minor superflex/QB2 appeal in softer matchups, but otherwise he’s not a strong fantasy option.
March 12: Kyler Murray signs one-year deal with Vikings
Fantasy impact: Positive (team > player)
Cockcroft: Murray inherits a strong receiving corps (Justin Jefferson, Jordan Addison, T.J. Hockenson) and Aaron Jones Sr. as a receiving back. His injury history tempers draft-day appeal, but healthy Murray should match or exceed his Cardinals per-game production and can approach the back of the top 10 in healthy outings.
Clay projection: 360-for-537, 3,601 yards, 23 TD, 11 INT; 504 rush yards, 4 TD
March 11: Daniel Jones re-signs with Colts
Fantasy impact: Positive
Cockcroft: Jones returns after performing well through 12 healthy games in 2025. He may not be ready by Week 1 following an Achilles tear, but he’s a useful backup/bench option in standard leagues and value in superflex/2QB formats if he recovers.
Clay projection: 335-for-505, 3,563 yards, 22 TD, 11 INT; 306 rush yards, 6 TD
March 10: Raiders trade Geno Smith to Jets
Fantasy impact: Positive
Cockcroft: Smith could rebound behind a better Jets line and with targets like Breece Hall and Garrett Wilson. If he wins the job over Justin Fields, he has superflex/2QB bench value.
Clay projection: 363-for-537, 3,755 yards, 18 TD, 14 INT
March 9: Malik Willis signs with Dolphins
Fantasy impact: Positive
Karabell: Willis gets a legitimate starting opportunity in Miami, pairing with De’Von Achane and Jaylen Waddle. His rushing upside makes him a fantasy sleeper with dual-threat appeal, though not a safe top-10 pick yet.
Clay projection: 334-for-522, 3,596 yards, 17 TD, 11 INT; 105 rushes, 545 yards, 5 TD
March 9: Tua Tagovailoa signs with Falcons
Fantasy impact: Neutral
Loza: Signed to a one-year deal likely as a bridge given Michael Penix Jr.’s ACL and potential Kirk Cousins exit. Tommy Rees’s expected run focus and Bijan Robinson’s role suggest Tua will be a game manager with limited fantasy upside.
Clay projection: 202-for-298, 2,311 yards, 11 TD, 8 INT
Running back
March 12: Emanuel Wilson signs with Seahawks
Fantasy impact: Neutral to positive
Cockcroft: Wilson projects as a short-term fill for Zach Charbonnet (torn ACL). With competitors around and Seattle possibly adding depth, Wilson is a late-round fantasy flier with some early-season upside.
Clay projection: 58 carries, 248 yards, 2 TD; 14 receptions, 109 yards, 1 TD
March 12: Rachaad White signs with Commanders
Fantasy impact: Positive
Cockcroft: White should be Washington’s passing-down back and might challenge for early-down work. The Commanders may add depth, but White could emerge with a top-25 RB ceiling if he leads the backfield.
Clay projection: 163 carries, 696 yards, 7 TD; 42 receptions, 270 yards, 2 TD
March 10: Isiah Pacheco joining Lions
Fantasy impact: Negative
Cockcroft: Likely a complementary back to Jahmyr Gibbs rather than a volume replacement for David Montgomery. Expect change-of-pace work and fantasy insurance value, not primary upside.
Clay projection: 162 carries, 702 yards, 5 TD; 21 receptions, 141 yards, 1 TD
March 9: Chiefs adding Kenneth Walker III to backfield
Fantasy impact: Positive
Karabell: Walker, coming off his second 1,000-yard season, could see his heaviest workload yet with the Chiefs and offers strong fantasy upside if Kansas City’s offensive line improves and Mahomes returns healthy. Health history is a concern.
Clay projection: 264 carries, 1,180 yards, 9 TD; 48 receptions, 367 yards, 2 TD
March 9: Rico Dowdle signs with Steelers
Fantasy impact: Positive
Bowen: Dowdle brings north-south running and receiving chops to a likely split backfield with Jaylen Warren. He profiles as RB2/Flex range unless he secures early-down/goal-line work.
Clay projection: 197 carries, 864 yards, 5 TD; 30 receptions, 221 yards, 1 TD
March 9: Travis Etienne Jr. signs with Saints
Fantasy impact: Potentially positive
Karabell: Etienne was PPR’s No. 10 RB in 2025. New Orleans still has Alvin Kamara (knee), so a timeshare is likely; Etienne’s upside depends on volume and Kamara’s availability.
Clay projection: 240 carries, 1,070 yards, 5 TD; 37 receptions, 328 yards, 2 TD
March 9: Tyler Allgeier signs with Cardinals
Fantasy impact: Positive
Karabell: Allgeier should get increased volume in Arizona and could be an RB2 if he becomes the early-down workhorse, depending on James Conner’s health.
Clay projection: 127 carries, 510 yards, 4 TD; 18 receptions, 133 yards
March 9: Kenneth Gainwell signs with Buccaneers
Fantasy impact: Negative
Karabell: Gainwell moves to a Bucs backfield led by Bucky Irving, reducing his expected touches and pass-catching volume. Expect a timeshare that limits upside.
Clay projection: 122 carries, 549 yards, 6 TD; 55 receptions, 366 yards, 2 TD
March 2: Lions trade David Montgomery to Texans
Fantasy impact: Positive
Karabell: Montgomery should return to 200+ touches in Houston as an early-down, goal-line option. The move improves his fantasy stock and could make him an RB2 candidate, though Texans’ offensive upside is lesser than Detroit’s.
Clay projection: 199 carries, 863 yards, 6 TD; 31 receptions, 241 yards, 1 TD
Wide receiver
March 10: Romeo Doubs signs with Patriots
Fantasy impact: Positive
Cockcroft: Doubs leaves Green Bay and could emerge as New England’s top receiver. With Drake Maye’s development, Doubs projects as a WR3/low-end WR2 with upside.
Clay projection: 63 receptions, 821 yards, 6 TD
March 9: Mike Evans signs with 49ers
Fantasy impact: Positive
Karabell: Evans, 32, missed time in 2025 but remains a high-volume, touchdown threat for Brock Purdy in a receiver room lacking proven options. Expect a rebound to WR2 production if healthy.
Clay projection: 65 receptions, 1,089 yards, 7 TD
March 9: Wan’Dale Robinson joins Titans
Fantasy impact: Positive
Bowen: Robinson reunites with Brian Daboll and should be a reliable slot target for Cam Ward. He profiles as a lower-tier WR3/in-between WR2 with steady target volume.
Clay projection: 82 receptions, 890 yards, 2 TD
March 9: Rashid Shaheed remains with Seahawks
Fantasy impact: Neutral
Loza: Shaheed’s sizable deal suggests Seattle values his speed and versatility, but he’s unlikely to be a regular fantasy producer despite role stability.
Clay projection: 41 receptions, 625 yards, 4 TD
March 9: Alec Pierce re-signs with Colts
Fantasy impact: Positive
Bowen: With Michael Pittman traded, Pierce should see increased volume as Indianapolis’s vertical threat. He projects as a WR2/Flex.
Clay projection: 59 receptions, 875 yards, 6 TD
March 9: Colts trade Michael Pittman Jr. to Steelers
Fantasy impact: Neutral
Karabell: Pittman, a possession receiver, should continue to see 100+ targets in Pittsburgh and can coexist with DK Metcalf. Expect steady volume and WR2 upside.
Clay projection: 93 receptions, 981 yards, 4 TD
March 5: Bears trade DJ Moore to Bills
Fantasy impact: Positive
Bowen: Moore moves into a high-volume role with Josh Allen under Joe Brady and should be a WR2 with weekly breakout potential. In Chicago, Luther Burden III’s role will expand alongside Rome Odunze and Colston Loveland; Loveland is TE1, Odunze mid WR2, Burden an upside WR3.
Clay projection (Moore): 63 catches, 870 yards, 7 TD
Tight end
March 11: Chig Okonkwo to Commanders
Loza: Okonkwo agreed to a three-year deal and should be Washington’s TE1, replacing Zach Ertz as a primary target. In an offense projecting more explosiveness, Okonkwo could flirt with top-15 TE numbers.
Clay projection: 53 receptions, 565 yards, 2 TD
March 9: Isaiah Likely signs with Giants
Fantasy impact: Positive
Karabell: Likely moves from Baltimore to New York for more opportunity and a chance to be a bigger downfield target. He may not start as a TE1 immediately but could double his 2025 production and become fantasy-relevant.
Clay projection: 62 receptions, 647 yards, 4 TD
March 9: Travis Kelce stays in Kansas City for one more season
Fantasy impact: Neutral
Loza: Kelce re-signed for a one-year deal. At 36, he drew fewer looks in 2025 and may no longer be a top-five TE, but he remains a key target and projects as a low-end TE1 if Mahomes returns to form.
Clay projection: 73 receptions, 753 yards, 5 TD
