Alexander Isak is set to return to Liverpool’s group training on Thursday, manager Arne Slot has confirmed. The club-record signing, who cost £125m, has been sidelined since December after suffering a fibula fracture and undergoing ankle surgery. The 26-year-old Sweden striker had made 16 appearances and scored three goals for the Reds before the injury sustained following a challenge by Micky van de Ven during the 2-1 victory on 20 December. Slot told the club website that Isak is in a good place, noting Sweden’s World Cup qualification and that, after months of hard work in rehabilitation, rejoining team sessions will be a positive step for the player. Liverpool travel to the Etihad Stadium on Saturday to face Manchester City in the FA Cup quarter-finals (kick-off 12:45 BST). Isak joined Liverpool from Newcastle United in September for a British-record transfer fee and has been progressing through his recovery since the ankle operation.
