Former world number two Ons Jabeur has revealed she is expecting her first child. The 31-year-old, who stepped away from the tour in July to focus on her wellbeing, posted on Instagram that a baby boy is due in April. Jabeur is currently ranked 79th and said she had not felt happy on court “for some time,” prompting a break to reset.
On Instagram she wrote: “Took a little break to reset and recharge… Turns out, we’ve been planning the cutest comeback ever. The court will have to wait a little longer, because soon… we’ll be welcoming our tiniest team-mate. Baby boy joining the team in April.” She has also described the pause as time “to breathe, to heal, and to rediscover the joy of simply living.”
A two-time Wimbledon finalist (2022 and 2023), Jabeur is widely known as the “Minister of Happiness” for her upbeat personality on and off court. She has warned that the tennis calendar “is killing everyone,” echoing concerns voiced by other top players about the season’s length and intensity.
Jabeur is the highest-ranked player from an Arab nation in WTA history and has captured five WTA singles titles. She says she is prioritising her health and happiness as she prepares for this new chapter.
