Mar. 16, 2026 — WASHINGTON — Steve Kerr reached a major milestone Monday night, earning his 600th career win as an NBA head coach when the Golden State Warriors beat the Washington Wizards 125-117.
The victory, which snapped a five-game losing streak that followed Kerr’s 599th win, came in what Kerr called “not a great basketball game,” but one the team needed and was “good enough to get.” He reached the mark in his 943rd regular-season game, making him the fourth-fastest coach to 600 wins, behind Phil Jackson (805 games), Pat Riley (832) and Gregg Popovich (887).
“It’s surreal to hear my name in that group,” Kerr said, noting the common thread among those coaches. “One thing that bonds us all together — those names and mine — is talent. You can’t win in this league without great players, and I was blessed from the day I took this job with incredible talent.”
Kerr also now has 601 career victories as a player, putting him alongside Don Nelson as the only people in NBA history to reach at least 600 wins both as a player and as a coach.
Golden State has been navigating injuries and lineup changes as it fights for position in the Western Conference play-in. With Stephen Curry and Jimmy Butler sidelined, Draymond Green and Kristaps Porziņģis returned after resting in Sunday’s loss at New York. Porziņģis paced the Warriors with 30 points, matching his season high.
“He’s quite a talent,” Kerr said of Porziņģis, joking about the schedule. “We’re also on the Kristaps Porziņģis reunion tour. It’s kind of crazy. We’re playing every one of his former teams. The Knicks, Washington, Atlanta, Boston, Dallas — all five of his teams, we’re seeing on this trip. Players usually get up for playing against their old teams.”
The Warriors head to Boston to face the Celtics on Wednesday.
