West Ham goalkeeper Alphonse Areola spent time walking and talking with BBC Sport’s Betty Glover, opening up about his love of dogs and how the squad is keeping its spirits up during a challenging run of results.
Areola described how spending time with dogs helps him unwind away from the pitch. He said the routine and companionship give him perspective and a welcome break from the daily pressures of professional football.
On the subject of form and pressure in the Premier League, Areola acknowledged the demands that come with competing at the highest level. He emphasised that the team is maintaining belief, working hard in training and relying on each other to turn results around rather than letting anxiety take over.
He also highlighted the dressing-room unity and the staff’s support as key factors in their resilience. The focus, he said, is on staying positive, addressing what they can control and preparing for the next match with confidence.
