What happened in fight one
– Eubank Jr recorded a clear 12-round victory, despite looking below his usual energy level and appearing weight-drained. Benn was unable to capitalise. Benn has since said he focused too much on finding a knockout early and indicated he will box more cautiously in a rematch.
– Punch statistics: Eubank landed 367 total punches to Benn’s 215; Eubank landed 227 power punches versus Benn’s 180. Landing percentages were about 40% for Eubank and 36% for Benn.
– All three judges scored the contest 116-112 for Eubank. Rounds 2, 7, 8, 9 and 10 were split on the cards; judges were unanimous in giving Eubank rounds 1, 4, 5, 6, 11 and 12, and Benn round 3.
Records and matchup notes
– Chris Eubank Jr (36) is the more experienced pro with 38 fights and has faced several former world champions, including George Groves, Billy Joe Saunders, James DeGale and Liam Smith. His three career defeats came to Smith, Groves and Saunders; he later avenged the loss to Smith. Eubank typically brings a size advantage and has suggested he does not need to be at peak to beat Benn.
– Conor Benn (29) entered the first match 23-0 and lacked the same level of world-title experience, which observers suggest was a factor. He has a slight height and reach disadvantage versus Eubank.
Why the original bout was cancelled in 2022
– The fight was originally scheduled for 8 October 2022 at the O2 Arena but was called off 48 hours before after Benn returned two adverse results from voluntary drug tests. The British Boxing Board of Control refused to sanction the fight, and Benn faced a prolonged dispute over a suspension.
– Benn was eventually cleared to return in November 2024 after the Board and UK Anti-Doping failed in their appeal against the National Anti-Doping Panel’s decision to lift his suspension.
What to watch for in the rematch
– Whether Benn can adapt tactically and avoid trying to force an early stoppage, and whether Eubank can reproduce the accuracy and work-rate that swung the first fight. Weight, rehydration and energy levels could again be significant factors. Expect a tactical chess match as much as an all-out brawl.
