PHILADELPHIA — Jalen Hurts brushed off recent stories that some Eagles players are frustrated with him, saying criticism comes with the territory for a quarterback and his focus remains on getting better.
Hurts said Wednesday he wasn’t surprised by the coverage and that he channels his energy into preparation, learning and refining his play rather than reacting to outside noise.
The Athletic reported that several teammates have expressed irritation with Hurts’ reluctance to throw into tight windows against zone coverage and that frustration flares when he falls back on his own instincts instead of following the game plan, according to veteran reporter Derrick Gunn.
Philadelphia’s offense has not matched its usual standards this season. The Eagles rank 25th in total offense (300.1 yards per game), 28th in passing (184.9) and 29th on third-down conversions (33.87%). Their rushing average has slipped to 115 yards per game (17th), down from 179 yards (second) last season.
Still, the club leads the NFL in red-zone scoring (75% conversion) and has committed only four giveaways, the fewest in the league—two major reasons the Eagles sit at 8-2.
Hurts acknowledged he draws attention both when the team is playing well and when it isn’t. He said he accepts accountability, takes pride in the offense’s identity and believes improvement starts with him.
“I look internally first,” he said, adding that the team has work to do and that his approach is to focus on growth and how the team responds.
Coach Nick Sirianni pushed back on taking reports at face value. “I don’t necessarily believe everything that’s being written,” Sirianni said, noting he avoids assuming every story is accurate.
Hurts, the reigning Super Bowl MVP, has completed 67% of his passes this season with 16 touchdowns and one interception, giving him the best touchdown-to-interception ratio in the league. His 107.0 passer rating ranks fifth in the NFL behind Lamar Jackson, Drake Maye, Matthew Stafford and Jared Goff. He is 54-22 in regular-season starts for his career.
He’s been held under 200 passing yards six times this year, including the last two games against Green Bay and Detroit, when the offense totaled 26 points and the defense played a decisive role in securing victories.
Hurts reiterated that how the team responds matters most: finding ways to improve, pushing forward and growing through the challenges.
