LOS ANGELES — Nine-time Pro Bowl pass rusher Khalil Mack agreed to a one-year contract to remain with the Los Angeles Chargers, the team announced Saturday. Sources told ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler the deal is fully guaranteed and worth $18 million.
The 2016 Defensive Player of the Year finished the 2025 season with 5.5 sacks, his second-lowest single-season total, after an elbow injury cost him four games. Mack’s influence was clear when he was sidelined: in the four games he missed the Chargers yielded 579 rushing yards (sixth-most in the NFL). From his return in Week 7 through Week 18 — a stretch that included many backups playing late in the season — Los Angeles allowed the fourth-fewest rushing yards (1,046).
With Mack back on a new deal and defensive tackle Teair Tart already re-signed, the Chargers have retained two key defensive pieces as their unit trends upward. Attention now shifts to re-signing outside linebacker Odafe Oweh and left guard Zion Johnson, both unrestricted free agents.
Mack remains in search of his first playoff victory; he dropped to 0-6 in postseason games following the Chargers’ wild-card loss to the New England Patriots. At his end-of-season news conference he said, ‘I want to ultimately be a champion.’
A fifth overall pick in the 2014 draft by the Oakland Raiders, Mack spent four seasons in Oakland, was traded to the Chicago Bears in 2018 and then dealt to the Chargers in 2022. His 113 career sacks rank seventh among active players.
