Laguna National Set to Host Thrilling Corporate Golf League Finale

The 2027 Corporate Golf League promises excitement as Laguna National's Classic course will determine the champion.

A Challenging Course Awaits

The final showdown of the 2027 The Straits Times & Business Times Corporate Golf League will take place at the prestigious Laguna National's Classic course on May 14. Known for its daunting layout and undulating fairways, the venue could lead to some surprises in the final results.

A Look Back at 2026

In the previous year's league, Team Boss, Orchid Country Club, and Singapore Global Trust maintained their standings from the second to final round without any shifts. The predictability of those results sets the stage for a potentially more dynamic outcome in 2027.

Key Dates and Locations

This year’s event will feature five of Singapore's finest golf courses. The league kicks off at Sentosa Golf Club’s Serapong course on March 12, followed by matches at Tanah Merah Country Club’s Tampines course on March 25, Singapore Island Country Club’s Island course on April 9, and Orchid Country Club on April 23, culminating at Laguna National.

Strong Participation Expected

While it's still early in the planning stages, five companies have already secured their spots and are gearing up for the competition. Additionally, many other corporations are meticulously forming their teams in anticipation of the upcoming league.

Henry Tan, founder of CLA Global TS, is among the first to register, all while the firm pivots to embrace artificial intelligence in business operations. Tan views golf as a parallel to business decisions, emphasizing strategic execution alongside technological advancements.

Building Strong Teams

As part of their preparation, Tan's team aims to incorporate new talent by organizing a training camp in the nearby islands of Bintan or Batam. Similarly, Orion Orthopaedics, having participated in the Social section previously, is stepping up their game for a more competitive entry this year, dedicated to providing opportunities for their clients.

Defending champions Team Boss have already begun their training with the annual Boss Golf Day at Singapore Island Country Club's New course. Their captain, Andre Huber, will face the challenge of selecting from a roster filled with experienced players displaying remarkable skills.

A Community of Golf Enthusiasts

Orchid Country Club is gearing up to take on Team Boss for the title this year, with a strong roster participating in the Singapore Golf Association League. However, the Corporate Golf League is not solely about competition; many teams' participation in the Social category contributes to a sense of community and camaraderie. Players use this platform to engage with clients in a relaxed atmosphere.

Winfred Tan, an avid participant since the league's inception in 2011, appreciates the social aspect of the event. He highlights the significance of networking and building friendships in a competitive yet enjoyable setting.

Looking Ahead with Enthusiasm

According to Murali Subramaniam, managing editor of The Straits Times, the resurgence of interest in the league since its restart post-COVID in 2023, thanks to the robust support from main sponsor Singapore Pools, has been encouraging. The anticipation for 2027 is palpable as teams prepare for another memorable season.
