ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. — After Buffalo’s 30-10 loss to the Miami Dolphins on Sunday, Bills coach Sean McDermott said Monday he is “fully confident” in offensive coordinator Joe Brady and the offensive staff and confirmed Brady will remain in his role for the rest of the season.
“Joe’s a good coach,” McDermott said, praising his staff while acknowledging there are plays and games the team would like back. He added the focus is on how the staff responds and adjusts moving forward.
The game came a day after the New York Giants fired Brian Daboll, Buffalo’s offensive coordinator from 2018-21. When asked whether the Bills would reach out to Daboll, McDermott called him “a great coach” but said that bringing him in is “not under any type of consideration.”
Buffalo (6-3) was scoreless through three quarters for only the third time since Josh Allen was drafted in 2018. The offense committed three turnovers, including an interception and a fumble by Allen, and struggled to find open receivers. Allen’s average time to throw was 3.53 seconds, his longest in a game since Week 15 of 2018, according to NextGen Stats.
The Dolphins generated 17 team pressures and three sacks on Allen, despite a 3.45-second average time to pressure — the longest this season against a quarterback who faced more than 10 pressures in a game.
McDermott said Allen remains engaged and proactive in getting the passing game back on track and is confident in the staff’s ability to make necessary corrections. Brady himself said he would have thrown more earlier in the game, believing the passing attack was more effective than the run in the early stages.
In the first half Buffalo had just 23 rushing yards on eight carries while Allen was 9-of-15 for 73 yards; the team went 0-for-6 on third down and trailed by 16 at halftime.
The Bills also lost tight end Dalton Kincaid to a hamstring issue; McDermott labeled Kincaid “week-to-week” heading into Sunday’s game at Tampa Bay. Rookie defensive end Landon Jackson (knee) will be sidelined this week, and McDermott said he does not yet have a timeline for Jackson’s return.
Defensive line coach Marcus West was taken to the hospital after the game; McDermott reported that West has been discharged and is “in a good spot.”
