A recent report from 'Cricinfo' reveals that the International Cricket Council (ICC) has laid out a detailed timeline for the qualification process. This came after discussions in October in Dubai, where the ICC shared its plans with member boards.
According to the timeline, the qualification for the men's and women's cricket events will take place during a designated window, which will include a total of eight nations competing in each category.
Rankings and Automatic Entries
Key rankings will determine which teams qualify for the prestigious Olympic slots. Currently, Australia, India, South Africa, and Great Britain have secured spots in the women's tournament, having emerged as the highest-ranked teams within their respective continents based on their performance during the recent T20 World Cup.
The men’s competition will see the top four teams from Africa, Asia, Europe, and Oceania qualify, using the rankings as of December 31, 2023, to finalize the teams.
As the host nation, the USA will be eligible to participate in both divisions, provided they finish in the top 15 of the rankings from June 30, 2026, to December 31, 2026. However, should the USA fail to meet this ranking, the spot will be reallocated based on the results from the ICC Women’s Champions Trophy 2027, with a cut-off date of March 1, 2027.

Between 2027 and 2031, the ICC has a packed schedule lined up, which includes 12 men's events, 7 women's events, and 5 Under-19 tournaments.
