In an exciting development for cricket enthusiasts, Cricket Australia (CA) and the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) have established a new umpire exchange program. This initiative aims to strengthen the bond between the two cricket boards while providing valuable international experience to officials.
Details of the Exchange Program
The inaugural assignments under this program involve Australian umpire Ben Treloar and Indian umpire Prashar Joshi. Treloar will officiate in two Ranji Trophy matches, showcasing his skills in the prestigious Indian domestic tournament. Meanwhile, Joshi will oversee two matches in the Sheffield Shield and one in the One-Day Cup in Australia.

Ben Treloar, an experienced umpire, has already made a mark in women's cricket, officiating in two One Day Internationals (ODIs) and four T20 Internationals. His overall statistics include:
- First-Class Matches: 29
- List A Games: 20
- T20 Matches: 36
- Total Matches as On-field Umpire: 91

On the other hand, 41-year-old Prashar Joshi is on the brink of breaking into the international arena, despite not yet having officiated in an international match. His record includes:

Strengthening Ties Through Officiating
This umpire exchange is not just an opportunity for individual growth; it also symbolizes the strong relationship between Cricket Australia and the BCCI. Their collaborative efforts have already led to the Big Bash League (BBL) making its way to India for the first time since its inception in 2011.
The opening match of the 2026-27 BBL season is scheduled to take place at the iconic MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. This highly anticipated game will feature the defending champions, the Perth Scorchers, competing against the Melbourne Renegades on December 12.
Future Prospects
Phil Rigby, who heads BBL operations and club growth, expressed optimism about the ongoing collaboration between the BCCI and Cricket Australia. He stated, “This is not just a one-off opportunity. While we focus on delivering this inaugural match in Chennai successfully, we are also keen on exploring further opportunities for future games.”
The dialogue with the Tamil Nadu Cricket Association (TNCA) and BCCI will continue, paving the way for more international participation in the years to come.
