The Georgian national rugby team has made a significant addition to their coaching staff with the appointment of Jerome Kaino, the renowned former All Blacks player.
Kaino's Role with the Lelos
As Georgia gears up for an exciting schedule, Kaino will join the coaching team starting this November. He will serve as an assistant coach under Pierre-Henri Broncan, with a focus on developing contact skills and enhancing attacking rucks.
This role is particularly timely as Georgia prepares for key Test matches against Canada, Tonga, and the USA, aimed at fine-tuning their strategies ahead of the 2027 Rugby World Cup.
A Reunion with Broncan
This partnership marks a reunion for Kaino and Broncan, who collaborated previously at Toulouse. Despite this new challenge, the 43-year-old will continue his responsibilities at Toulouse, ensuring his experience benefits both teams.
Jerome Kaino's Distinguished Career
Born in American Samoa in 1983, Kaino relocated to New Zealand at age four and evolved into one of rugby's elite back-row forwards. After rising through the Auckland rugby ranks, he represented both Auckland and the Blues from 2004 to 2018. Kaino was an integral part of New Zealand rugby's triumphs during a golden era.
His journey began with significant achievements, including helping the Junior All Blacks clinch the World Rugby Under-21 Championship in 2004 and being honored as the Under-21 Player of the Year.
That same year, he debuted for the senior All Blacks, where he accumulated 81 Test caps, contributing to two Rugby World Cup victories in 2011 and 2015, along with five titles in the Rugby Championship.
Kaino's impact on the sport earned him the title of New Zealand Player of the Year in 2011, a testament to his vital contribution to the All Blacks' success on home turf.
Transition to Coaching
After concluding his Super Rugby career, Kaino transitioned to coaching, dedicating his last playing years to Toulouse in France. During his time there, he helped secure the Top 14 titles in 2019 and 2021, along with lifting the Champions Cup in his final season.
Following his retirement, Kaino entered a coaching role at Toulouse, focusing on skills development and their Under-21 program for the past five years.
Countdown to the World Cup
The anticipation is building for the upcoming Men's Rugby World Cup in Australia. With less than a year to go, teams are finalizing their strategies and lineups for what promises to be the most exhilarating tournament to date. Georgia, sharing Pool B with rugby powerhouses South Africa, Italy, and Romania, will aim to make a strong impression with Kaino now on board.
